Press Release
The City of Colwood’s Transportation and Public Infrastructure Committee voted at its meeting on April 2 to forward to Council recommendations to apply to the Province for a number of infrastructure grants.  The Committee would like to pursue a 100% grant for the Transportation Master Plan which is currently shown in the City’s 2013 budget at $100,000 funded from Development Cost Charges.  If successful this would leave more money in the DCC fund for actual construction projects. A similar grant far a Stormwater Master Plan is also contemplated.  These would be the first such Master Plans created for the City of Colwood since incorporation in 1986.
In addition the Committee would like the City to apply for 100% grants for bike lanes, sidewalks and drainage improvements on Island Highway and Sooke Road from the Galloping Goose north of Belmont Road to Veteran’s Memorial Parkway.   This is divided into two projects that total approximately $8.5 million.  The General Strategic Priorities Fund is only available for projects that will tend to reduce Green House Gas Emissions or that build a municipality’s capacity to do such projects.
