 | Permissive Property Tax Exemptions Applications will be accepted from non-profit organizations and churches for permissive property tax exemptions for the year 2011. Organizations and churches that own and occupy their property and meet the requirements stated in the Community Charter and Council Policy may qualify for a tax exemption. Council policy regarding permissive tax exemptions is available here. Applications for exemption must be received no later than Aug 31, 2010. For further information, contact Dave Gawley, Acting Director of Finance at 250-478- 5999 or email dgawley@colwood.ca |  | BC Transit puts Forward Side Running option for Rapid Transit Alignment in Colwood BC Transit made a presentation to Colwood Council at the July 12 meeting asking for Council’s support for Rapid Transit from Victoria to Colwood Town Centre and for an indication from Council as to what configuration the City would prefer. The presentation included a new possibility that came out of the public consultations – the Side Running option where both transit lanes would be on the east or Juan de Fuca side of the Island Highway. You can see the whole presentation here. You can read the resolution adopted by Council here. The Side Running option will be discussed in a future Transportation and Public Infrastructure meeting (likely at the end of August) when VRRT project team staff will be there to present more information. |

 | The City of Colwood has endorsed the Provincial goals for greenhouse gas emissions, and is updating its Official Community Plan to include targets of reducing GHG emissions by 33% in total from 2007 levels by 2020. While Colwood recognizes that the targets may change based on provincial and/or federal methodologies used to track and measure emission reductions and EnerGuide ratings, further reduction targets to 49% and 80% below 2007 levels are also being set for 2030 and 2050.
