Colwood’s Fire Department has been protecting Colwood residents since 1946 – we are the West Shore’s longest serving fire department.

Open burning is not permitted in Colwood at any time.  Colwood Outdoor Burning Restriction and Regulation Bylaw No. 931, 2007 Outdoor wood burning appliances are permitted EXCEPT when the fire rating is HIGH or EXTREME


The City of Colwood is well served by approximately 40 dedicated and experienced full-time and paid-on-call firefighters who care passionately about their community. All Colwood firefighters are dedicated fire suppression and rescue professionals trained and certified under the British Columbia firefighters training program.

The Fire Department provides key public safety services including Emergency Fire Rescue Response, Fire Prevention & Education, Fire Safety Inspections, Firefighter Training, Fleet Maintenance, and Administration.
