Volunteer at upcoming community events

Colwood hosts events throughout the year. Some upcoming events include Holiday Hot Chocolate Pop Ups under the lights in Colwood Parks, the Christmas in Colwood Lighted Truck Parade, and the Colwood Christmas Light Up at City Hall. Reach out if you are interested in helping with event plans, set up, music, kids crafts, or refreshments. Bring your ideas! Email adedrick@colwood.ca

Colwood Neighbourhood Litter Pickers

Are you part of a group that might be interested in organizing a community clean up in your neighbourhood?
The Colwood Parks Team has litter pick kits that residents can book. Kits include 10 litter pickers, gloves, and garbage bags. When you return the kit you can also leave the garbage bags for disposal.
Your efforts will be an example that fosters pride in our community and discourages litterbugs!
Call the Colwood Parks team at 250-474-4133 if you have questions, or simply complete this Litter Picker form to start the process.

Emergency Support Services

Are you interested in assisting your community in the event of an emergency? View Royal & Colwood Emergency Support Services would like to have you as a member of our team. Training is provided, free of charge, for all volunteers.

Every community in BC is mandated to have an Emergency Plan. Part of this plan includes an Emergency Support (Social) Services plan and a functioning committee to deliver the services necessary to aid evacuees comfort and recovery.

The View Royal & Colwood Emergency Support Services is a joint team of volunteers, from each of the communities to respond to emergency incidents involving evacuees in either of the communities, as well as the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations.

We respond when requested by the communities to provide assistance with evacuees. We do this by ensuring they have lodging, food, clothing and support, either from their own insurance or through Emergency Management BC funding. This can be done on site, for individual families impacted by such as fires, or by opening a Reception Centre for larger incidents, 12 or more evacuees.

We also have a public information awareness component. We attend schools, boys and girls organizations, public venues where we talk to family’s about emergency planning and distribute brochures relating to their own home preparedness.

In addition, we help plan and promote an Emergency Preparedness Fair, which is held in our community each year in May.

Although we are involved in many aspects of Emergency Preparedness, have regular training, work parties, and meetings, the extent of your involvement is negotiable.  We understand family and employment comes first.

The communities share in the financing of the training, ongoing operations, uniforms, and necessary supplies. View Royal Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, takes the lead on the administration of the team. Our meetings are held on Wednesday evenings, usually the last of the month, at 7 pm (1900), one month in View Royal Public Safety Building, the next in Colwood City Hall, Council chambers.

To start registration process, please contact Captain Troy Mollin of View Royal Fire Rescue. His email is tmollin@viewroyal.ca, and he can be reached at the hall Tues to Thurs, as shifts change, 250-479-7322. He will also give you information to have a criminal record check completed, no charge to you. This is a great group to volunteer with!
