What do you do with a trusty old fire truck that has reached the end of its useful life and can no longer be safely used as an emergency vehicle?
Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association and other departments on the West Shore worked together with Muscular Dystrophy Canada to give Colwood's recently retired engine a new life.
On October 6, representatives from the Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association, West Shore Fire Departments, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, sponsoring organizations and Colwood Council gathered for an official unveiling.
An ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy
Fire departments across Canada have worked in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Canada since 1954, supporting people affected by neuromuscular disorders. You will likely have seen firefighters participating in the annual “Fill The Boot” fundraising campaign for Muscular Dystrophy each spring.
To build upon those efforts, our Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association developed a plan to repurpose the old engine as an important ambassador and a key fundraising tool in support of this great initiative.
Wrapped in Muscular Dystrophy Canada branding with support from valued local sponsors and community supporters, the retired Colwood fire truck is now a dedicated fundraising vehicle designed to bring attention to this important cause.
Sponsors include Aubrey's Enterprise Ltd, Bayside Mechanical, City of Colwood, Coast Capital Savings, Emery Electric, Island Savings, Linda Aubrey, The Sign Pad, Stewart Parkinson and Online Ventures Inc.
Watch for the truck out and about in the community and please consider giving to support research and care for people with neurological disorders if you are able.
