Earth Day is April 22. It's an opportunity to think about the precious ecosystems all around us that we often take for granted, and what we can do to protect the environment that sustains us.

One way the City of Colwood is working to reduce our climate impact is by shifting to electric vehicles and equipment as current gas powered equipment reaches the end of its useful life.

One example is the zero emission van the Colwood Parks team uses for irrigation system maintenance. This is the City’s first step into the world of full-size zero emission trucks and vans.

Making this switch will save an estimated 33% over the life of the vehicle compared to a conventional gas car or truck, due to the reduced cost of fuel and maintenance.

Watch for Colwood's irrigation experts, Pete and Trevor, out and about around Colwood in the e-van, fueling their day-to-day operations with hydro while working to ensure water is used sustainably in the care of the City's park and boulevard infrastructure.
