Exciting announcement on the West Shore today with MLA Ravi Parmar, West Shore RCMP, Mayor Kobayashi, Colwood Councillors, and other local mayors and councillors.
A new mental health unit made up of RCMP officers and Island Health clinicians will allow for a trauma informed response to people in crisis on the West Shore.
Colwood and other West Shore municipal Council’s budgeted for additional police officers in this year’s budgets in order to facilitate this program which has now received Provincial funding of $375,000.
This will not only provide more appropriate, compassionate and caring service for people in crisis, but aims to prevent hospital admissions that tie up hospital staff and officers who must often wait while an individual is triaged, rather than attending to other duties.
