Steps to completion of the Latoria Roundabout

News

We're all eager to see the Latoria Roundabout construction completed. The original timeline for substantial completion was this fall. That has now shifted to December.

Why has the timeline changed?

In addition to working with the Provincial and Federal governments to ensure the protection of Latoria Creek as a valuable natural asset and habitat, the main reason is that it was determined that BC Hydro upgrades be incorporated into this project. This growing area will require service expansion in the near future to ensure existing customers aren't impacted as large new facilities like the Royal BC Museum are built. Doing the work while the road is under construction means BC Hydro won't have to reopen the newly paved road shortly after completion.

What you can expect to see over the coming months

  • September – continuation of hydro upgrades, underground utilities and drainage infrastructure, pond works, and widening of the roadbed
  • October – completion of hydro upgrades, forming and pouring concrete for curbs and sidewalks
  • November – road works to prepare for paving
  • December – pave and operationalize the roundabout
  • Spring 2024 – landscaping and finishing details

Nearby property owners are also preparing for development

Below is a conceptual drawing of the completed roundabout along with a rendering of a planned development adjacent to the intersection. You may notice that these nearby property owners have begun to prepare their site for construction.
