The City of Colwood has added a splash of colour to the community’s streets in the form of new decorative banners featuring local art.

Each banner, hung from light posts lining the city’s streets and walkways, features a locally-sourced photo of something residents value in their community.

Intended to celebrate opportunities to live life to the fullest in Colwood, each banner also features a word ending in -ful, such as artful, colourful, or peaceful.

Some of the banners set up around town include a knitted octopus that was crafted and shared by a Colwood resident for everyone in the community to enjoy, a young girl carefully placing a shell on the ocean shore at the Esquimalt Lagoon, a Lekwungen dancer placing his hands on the earth at the Na’tsa’maht gathering for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Royal Beach in 2021, a kayaker paddling along Colwood’s shoreline at sunset, and Esquimalt Nation Elder Mary Ann Thomas blessing the site of new housing being built in 2019 at 342 Wale Rd.
