A series of events are planned for World Oceans Day on June 10 at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse.

Parks Canada interpreters, the southern resident killer whale outreach team and several partners will be on hand offering a variety of activities, which include a poster-making station to celebrate those orcas and a chance to meet “local superhero Super Ollie.”

There will also be activities explaining ways people can help protect ocean ecosystems, showcasing the tidal pools dotted around the area.

World Oceans Day was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008 after being first pitched by Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development and the Ocean Institute of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992.

Events will be happening on Saturday, June 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
