Set on the shore of Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood and surrounded by gardens and mature forest, Hatley Castle is a spectacular landmark. Visitors may recognize it from well known movies such as the X-Men.

The castle is currently home to Royal Roads University and boasts the stunning Hatley Gardens, featuring incredible Japanese, Italian and Rose gardens. It is surrounded by miles of walking trails that weave throughout the property.

Hatley Castle was built by coal magnate James Dunsmuir in 1908. In 1940 the land was purchased by the Department of National Defence (DND) and until 1995 the Castle served as dormitory and mess hall for cadets and staff officers at Royal Roads Military College.

The beautiful buildings and grounds are a National Historic site known as Hatley Park. Visit the breathtaking gardens, castle, museum and gift shop which are open daily from 10am-4pm.
