The City of Colwood falls within the School District 62 boundary. Within Colwood, there are 5 elementary schools (grades K-6), 2 middle schools (grades 7-9) and one secondary school (grades 9-12). The District also offers alternative programs for students with unique learning needs.
Colwood is a great place to be if you are a working on post secondary education. Royal Roads University, located in the heart of Colwood, is a world renowned, progressive university that offers collaborative on-line learning combined with residencies. Camosun College offers university transfer courses right here on the West Shore and the University of Victoria is just a half hour drive.
Colwood is also home to the area’s first Nature Preschool and Nature Kindergarten where children spend the majority of their time learning outdoors through exploration, discussion and play. This innovative program is based on strong research that shows that children learn best when they are engaged and active. Being able to experience things like tides, rain and wind and the changing seasons in the forest enables children to more clearly build an understanding of how natural systems work and where they fit within that.
Colwood Elementary School was built in 1874 and was the first school house in the region. Read more about the history of Colwood School.
