Colwood firefighters rescued an unconscious resident from a burning house early Thursday.

The resident was placed on the lawn and given CPR before being taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics.

The person’s condition is unknown.

Colwood crews arrived at the home in the 3300-block of St. Troy Place within seven minutes of receiving a call at 1:47 a.m. View Royal and Langford firefighters assisted.

Firefighters immediately entered the home to search for occupants and found the unconscious individual on the second floor.

The Colwood Fire Department said in a statement that rescuing someone from a burning building is the toughest part of the job.

“The heart of every firefighter who attended is pulling for that individual.”

Fire investigators and the West Shore RCMP are looking into the cause of the fire.
