The names of two celebrated West Shore men are now etched in the Ottawa memorial for fallen firefighters.
On Sept. 10, members of Langford, Colwood and View Royal fire rescues accompanied the Caven and Cassidy families to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters ceremony, where the names of Langford Assistant Chief Lance Caven and Colwood Chief John Cassidy were added to the memorial.
The ceremony honours firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
Caven died this spring after a valiant battle with cancer. He spent 30 years with Langford Fire Rescue, first as a volunteer when he joined in 1991, moving into a career position in 2002 and finally working as assistant chief since 2017.
Cassidy died on shift in June 2021 and is remembered as a respected leader, trusted colleague, husband, father and friend who could always be counted on.
