There are lots of fun and interesting things to do together in Colwood this Family Day Weekend... and every day! 

We want to encourage families to take full advantage of the Family Day holiday and spend a great weekend together. Post a #ColwoodFamilyDay photo and tag @CityofColwood to show how you are spending the weekend!

1.Visit West Shore Parks & Recreation for a jam packed day of fun

Starting on Saturday, February 17, bring the family for a free swim between 1:00pm and 4:30pm. On Monday, February 19, West Shore Parks & Recreation is open for the full day from 6am to 10pm. Join in for free family fitness in the Indoor Sports Complex from 10am to 11am then hit the JDF golf course for free round from dawn until dusk.   

2. Citizens' Environment Network in Colwood  and Friends of Havenwood Park Beach to Mountain Trail

The Citizens' Environment Network in Colwood (CENiC) and Friends of Havenwood Park (FOHP) are envisioning the Beach to Mountain Trail System as discussed in the Colwood Parks & Recreation Master Plan

Starting at the Beachlands and winding your way through parks and trails in the City up to Lookout Lake Park and then back to the beach. Can you beat the CENiC and FOHP challenge to beat the walking time record of 3 hours and 30 minutes to get from beach to mountain? Check out their guide on Facebook.

3. Royal Bay Family Fun Day

Bring your families, including the furry ones, and come on down to Meadow Park Green between 11am and 2pm to enjoy hot beverages, kids activities, and taking photos in the photo booth!

4. Visit the Celebrate! Art Show hosted by the Arts & Culture Colwood Society

Join the Arts and Culture Colwood Society for the first event in their new space. Opening mid February through mid March, Wednesday to Saturday from, the Celebrate! Art show celebrates love for community, nature, and new beginnings. 

Free admission on Saturday, February 17, between 12pm and 4pm.

5. Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse

Travel back in time with a visit to Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse. Explore the bunkers, tanks, guns and batteries, then tour the oldest lighthouse on the West Coast that has been guiding ships safely into the harbour since 1860. 6. Wildplay

Reopening for the 2024 season on February 17, WildPlay Element Parks is the Westshore’s only tree-to-tree adventure course, providing a unique way to experience the natural beauty of Colwood! Visit Wildplay Victoria for more information and to reserve.

7. Hatley Castle and Gardens

Step into a fairy tale at Hatley Castle​ as you wander with the peacocks through the romantic Italian Garden, the peaceful Japanese Garden and the fragrant Rose Garden. Read about  ​Hatley Castle and Hatley Gardens

8. Explore the beach

Head to the beach on Ocean Boulevard in Colwood to count crab shells, skip stones, spy an eagle, sandpiper or swan, find all the driftwood sculptures, practice your balance on the logs and leave a message in the sand. Learn more about the Colwood Waterfront and Esquimalt Lagoon.

9. Picnic in the park

Colwood has incredible parks that are perfect for picnics. Visit Colwood Creek ParkOcean View ParkHerm Williams Park or The Beachlands Park. Dress for the weather and enjoy the fresh air: toss the frisbee, play hide & seek, and enjoy a snack together!

10. Wander our wonderful forest trails

Explore Royal Roads Forest under huge ancient cedars, hike up to the view point at Havenwood Park, conquer the stairs in Latoria Creek Park and discover new trails like Outlook Park above Wishart Road, Promenade Park in Upper Royal Bay and the new Ridge Trail between painter Road and Metchosin Road in Royal Bay.

11. Get ready for spring in the garden!

Sowing a packet of seeds or planting a few spring flowers doesn't take long, and the fun and learning continue as the family watches them bloom and grow. Grab a few packets or seedlings at Colwood GardenWorks. You might even consider getting involved in the Colwood Community Garden at City Hall as a great way to get out and connect with neighbours. And don't forget you can bring your garden waste to the Colwood Branch Drop Off at City Hall on Saturday, February 17. Branch Drop off returns to its weekly schedule on Saturday, March 2.
